The "Travel-Friendly Cities Contest", held together by Taiwan Tourism Bureau and CommonWealth (遠見) Magazine, has recently concluded and results are revealed. Each city or county at first recommended its friendly sights to be voted by the public between July 1st, 2008, and July 31st, 2008. During this time, every person was able to vote on three differently categorized tourist attractions everyday. Everyone had three votes on three respective categories: natural attractions (自然風景類), cultural attractions (人文歷史類), and shopping and entertainment attractions (觀光商圈類).
Results: Top Three Attractions for Each Category:
Natural 1. Chiayi County –Alishan Forest Recreation Area – 104560 Votes (嘉義縣 - 阿里山森林遊樂區) 2. Tainan County - Jianshanpi Jiangnan Resort – 40192 Votes (台南縣 - 尖山埤江南渡假村) 3. Hualien County - Taroko National Park – 33369 Votes (花蓮縣 - 太魯閣國家公園)
Cultural 1. Taoyuan County – Liang Chiang Cultural Area – 109979Votes (桃園縣-兩蔣文化園區) 2. Taipei City - National Palace Museum – 104077 Votes (台北市-國立故宮博物院) 3. Kaohsiung City - Former British Consulate at Dagou – 15493 Votes (高雄市-打狗英國領事館)

This contest activity focused on the attraction's friendliness to its visitors, especially foreign guests. In addition to the value and popularity of the attraction, each person should also judge and vote based on each attraction's friendliness towards foreigners, including friendliness in guide signs, language translations, sanitation, great sights, and services. After this contest, foreigners can have an idea which popular attractions will be comfortable to visit in Taiwan.
