(Taiwan) The Most Popular Snacks in Taiwan Night Market
As you know, night markets are the place with lots of Taiwanese snacks. What’s your favor? 2008 Taiwan Culinary Exhibition announced the judgment of Taiwan Flavor Cuisine on August 18.Squid balls (炸花枝丸) and mango shaved ice (芒果冰) are two of the most popular snacks to foreign guests.
The Tourism Bureau invited food critics from Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong to judge Taiwanese cuisine, including desserts, snacks and flavored dishes. After two-day course of sampling and among hundreds of delicacies, these experts from different countries have come to a conclusion that squid ball is considered one of the best tastes of Taiwan for its chewy texture and seafood flavor, and it is suitable for deep fried and steam cooked as well.
Mango shaved ice is another Taiwan dessert that catches these gourmets’ eyes. Taiwan has a variety of well-known fruits, and fresh cubed mango on the top of shaved ice is a popular dessert in summer for Taiwanese. Other selected dishes are beef noodles(牛肉麵), taro rice cake(客家芋頭米糕), braised pork rice(滷肉飯), soup noodles(切仔麵), etc.
The Tourism Bureau will integrate the results of the judgment to program the overseas marketing of Taiwan tourism and to attract foreign visitors. As night markets in Taiwan are always attractive to foreign visitors, these selected Taiwan flavor delicacies are easily found in night markets as well.
